medial-epicondylitis

What is Medial Epicondylitis?

Also known as ‘golfer’s elbow’, medial epicondylitis is a disordered reaction of the tendons on the inner aspect of the elbow as a result of repetitive stress and overuse. This leads to pain on the inner aspect of the elbow which can radiate down the forearm, and is worse when the wrist is flexed.

How is it treated non-operatively?

Medial epicondylitis can be managed with rest and activity modification, anti-inflammatory medication, and selective injections. Dr Yu will also prescribe a course of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

How is it treated operatively?

If non-operative management is unsuccessful, Dr Yu may recommend surgery. This operation involves a small incision at the inner aspect of the elbow to clean up (debride) the diseased tendon before reattaching it to healthy bone. After the operation, you will require a sling for a week before commencing a tailored course of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Dr Yu will then prescribe a tailored rehabilitation protocol for your situation.

My goals as a surgeon are to relieve your pain, restore your function, and return you back to doing what you love.
